Trio Rubato is a mid-Michigan based ensemble that provides music enthusiasts with an opportunity to discover, explore, and connect with the world of music. Our goal is to educate and introduce audiences to a wide variety of music from all genres, from jazz to classical to music of other cultures and modern works. Mary and Dirk were married in the summer of 2022 and have enjoyed making music together since they first met. They started the ensemble in 2019 and had the opportunity to perform with two other talented pianists until 2022, when Pat became a regular member of the ensemble. Dirk and Pat are longtime friends who have been performing together in various groups for most of their adult life. The trio took its name from the word rubato because they enjoy interpreting music with their own nuance, sensitivity and emotion while keeping the composers' intent in mind.
Trio Rubato stands out from other music ensembles in several ways. We are celebrated for our performances being infused with musicality, expressive playing, and energy. The joy we get from making music together is reflected through our conversational music style and interactive playing and engages audiences of all ages. Not only do we perform repertoire written for our instrumentation, but we also perform original works, commission new works, and transcribe and arrange works for other instruments to fit our ensemble.
You can hear Trio Rubato perform in recitals and at music festivals throughout mid-Michigan. We will also continue to upload audio links from past performances to our website on the Audio Links page. We will be recording our first CD in 2024 and plan to have the CD available for purchase (as well as digitally) by May 2024.
Trio Rubato is available for recitals, festival performances, masterclasses, coaching sessions, and workshops throughout Michigan and the surrounding states. Feel free to contact us (email is best) to discuss what you are looking for. Our pricing is dependent upon the event, where it is located and the time required.
